When building an authoritative site, you will want to optimize your copywriting content. It is very effective in getting Google’s attention, but you should also optimize for your human readers as well. I tend to use a ton of metaphors and pop cultural references to draw in the reader’s attention and get them hooked. If You SEO It, They Will Come

In the 1989 film Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner’s character, Ray Kinsella, is an Iowa corn farmer who hears voices in his corn fields whispering mysterious riddles. He interprets them to mean that he needs to build a baseball diamond, instead of harvesting his crops. Huge risk, big pay-off. The risk Costner’s character takes lead him on a journey to find a reclusive author to help interpret the continuing messages and the purpose for his field. Once James Earl Jones gets involved, the infamous 1919 Chicago “Black” Sox show up in all of their ghostly glory and remind Kinsella to pursue his true dreams in life. In the spirit of Friday mornings, I will attempt to stretch this into an analogy on Search Engine Optimization.

Keep SEO Out Of The House

From my experience as a family man, I have found that every decision-making process can benefit from another perspective. Sure, there are positive results that develop from one point of view: books are published, puppies are brought home, and my shrimp pasta is to die for, but having a strict dictatorship in the decisions is no way to run a house, or a business. Implementing search engine optimization into your business and marketing strategies demands the same cohesive approach as an inspiring household. Developing a healthy relationship out side of your company’s house is the best thing you can do for your search engine optimization decisions.

The Coolest Guy On The Internet

coolest_guy_0.jpgChances are that if you have kids, you’ve been told at least once that everything you’ve known as ‘cool’ your entire life has now solidified into the “uncool” shape of a square. Your music doesn’t sound anything like the Jonas Brothers and Harrison Ford is the car they want for their sixteenth birthday. Raising kids is not a popularity contest, and sometimes you have to be a good parent before you can be the ‘cool parent’. The good news is that with the evolution of the internet, whatever you define as ‘cool’ has its own special place online that you will never outlive.

Twas The Night Before Christmas

twas_the_night_before_christmas_0_0.jpgTwas the night before Christmas, when all through the Volacci house
Not a computer was stirring, not even a triple-button mouse.
The stockings were hung by the front desk with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The employees were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of search engine optimization danced in their heads.
And Amy in her sweater, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains in for a short holiday nap.

When on my computer screen there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my desk to see what was the matter.
I typed in my password in such a flash,
And clicked away pop-ups offering free cash.

The moon that shone on the computer screen below
Gave the luster to its reflection of Austin’s first snow.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh on my screen, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Google! now, Yahoo! now, Youtube and eBay!
On, Digg! On, LinkedIn! on Facebook and MySpace!
To the top of the search will all your clients quickly crawl!
Now optimize! Optimize! Optimize all!"
