Facebook's New Look is Great for Brands

This morning, Facebook unveiled a new look for its news feed that resembles Google+ in a very striking way. Minutes after Facebook debuted the overhaul, people took to Twitter to discuss the similarities between the update and the existing look of competitor Google+, which launched its own new features yesterday.

 

Users of social networks have often complained about the clutter on news feeds; Facebook's new effort includes more white space to make reading a more pleasant experience. However, this striking resemblance to Google+ has not gone unnoticed. According to Mashable,
 
"Looking at the designs side by side, the similarities are obvious. For example, Facebook's new look takes updates from friends — also called Stories — from small thumbnails to beautiful, blown-up displays, just like Google+'s approach to highlighting updates. Previews of articles shared from friends will also take up more real estate in the redesigned news feed. (Google+ does this too.)
 
Facebook has also added multiple news feeds that highlight photos, music news, and a section just for celebrities and organizations. This will give a great advantage to brands and businesses with fan pages, which have had difficulty appearing on users' news feeds due to the EdgeRank algorithmic updates.
