Press Releases Aren’t Your Grandpa’s Marketing Tool

The press release has come a long way since it was invented in 1906-- and is still a relevant, high-ROI way to get out the word about your company.

One of the things we recommend to every client we onboard is that they begin consistently creating and posting high-quality content— or let us do so. One of the easiest types of high quality content to develop, distribute, and see returns on is the press release, which (in my opinion) is one of the best content types to post on your website.

Boost SEO

At Volacci, we care a lot about SEO, and press releases are great in that respect. A well-optimized press release, when posted on newspaper and other quality industry websites, will point a number of high-quality links back to your blog, and will likely send along the kind of qualified leads that we’re all hungry for.

Build Brand Identity

Additionally, press releases help build a cohesive, visible brand identity. Structuring well-written content around newsworthy happenings within your company is a great way to not only show that you’re relevant, but also to get your brand noticed and written about, and to generate more interest in your brand.

Outweigh Negative Reviews

Think about it: especially for brands who don’t have much presence in the SERPs aside from website, social media, and then unrelated mentions, publishing press releases is a great way to increase the information about your brand that is present on the internet. For brands who have negative reviews on websites like Yelp or Glassdoor, publishing extra content means that the search engines have more options of results to display when someone searches for your name.

Keep Content Fresh

Lastly, press releases are a great kind of content to generate if you’re trying to keep the news on your website fresh, but aren’t sure what to write about. Do you have a new employee, or is your company going out to volunteer? Are you launching a new product, moving into a new office, or have you won an award? Publishing and distributing a press release written about each notable event your office encounters is a great way to build up high quality content on your website without coming across as a biased brand-pusher.

Increase Your Reach

Don’t just take my word for it on whether publishing press releases is a good idea. At Volacci, we frequently write and distribute press releases on behalf of our clients, and see great results from the effort. One press release we sent back in October received nearly 60,000 impressions, and was redistributed by well over 100 newspapers, business journals, and industry publications. Our client benefitted tremendously from the release, as you can imagine.

For brands interested in publishing press releases, solutions like Vocus are a great way to get the word out in a cost-effective manner.
