If Your Brand Had a Social Media Misfire in 2012, You're In Good Company

As it turns out, even the United Nations isn't exempt from the occasional misfire. An employee mistakenly sent a tweet that could provoke the Palestine and Israel situation even further.
On Thursday, the UN voted on a resolution to change the status of the Palestinian delegation from “observer” to “non-member observer state.” However, according to Mashable, the U.N.’s official Twitter handle, @UN, posted a tweet with an unfortunate typo:
“On Day of Solidarity with Palestinians, Ban Ki-moon stresses urgency of reaching 1-state solution.”
Mashable notes that the tweet should have called for a two-state solution. Though the tweet has — not surprisingly — been deleted, it was online long enough to be retweeted several times. It's awful that these mistakes happen, but in a weirdly comforting way-- even the UN, it seems, isn't perfect.
Have you had any social media horror stories in 2012? We'd love to hear them.
