Too Many Terms! How to Manage SEO for Many Terms on Your Website
Many sites have the need to optimize for several terms. Like our webstore Sprysoft Academic Software. We have literally thousands of products. However, you should generally only target each page on your website for one or two terms.
So what is a good SEO guy to do?
The answer is simple, really. Target your top one or two terms and your company name on your front page. Then, target lesser phrases like product names deeper in your site.
On Sprysoft, the best phrase for our industry is "Academic Software". As of this writing, if you Google that phrase you'll see that we're 4th out of 285,000,000. (Not bad if I do say so myself...). But, what about other important terms? One of the products that we sell is the Speedskin Keyboard cover, a product that helps kids learn how to type. So, we linked to that product from our front page (giving it a lot of the credibility that our front page has) and we did a little SEO on that page. Google Speedskin Keyboard Cover and you'll see that we're #2, right behind the manufacturer.
So, lessons learned:
1. Target 1 or at most 2 phrases (plus your company name) on the front page of your site.
2. Create sub-pages and optimize them for other important terms.
