In SEO, using keywords on- and off-page is essential to ranking well in the search engines. Fundamentally, search engines want to deliver the most relevant match to a web surfer’s searching phrase. This is why proper keywords are optimized in both on-page content and in the meta tags. This allows the web site owner to tell the search engines that their site is relevant for those phrases. As the Internet evolves, SEO tactics change with it. Say hello to Keywords 2.0.
If you use a content management system (CMS), such as Drupal, you have the ability to tag each added item with relevant keywords. These tags are then used to produce many layers of navigation on your site. These keyword tags are also used to generate summary pages of related content and can automatically generate your site’s URL path structure. This will allow any user of a CMS like Drupal to make every page of their site search engine-friendly. This means that spiders will index all your pages for relevant keyword tags, creating a better chance of receiving higher rankings on the SERPs.
These new keyword tagging, or keyword 2.0, are different for a few reasons. First, the keyword tags are visible on the page for everyone to see and are very accessible for the spiders to find and index. It also means that it won’t be as easy to try any black or grayhat SEO tactics will irrelevant or invisible keywords. The new keyword tags appear as links, which will most likely boost the importance of the keyword, seeing as anchor text carries more SEO weight than regular text. This allows Google to understand the focus you have on each page and index you more correctly. Put all these benefits together and you have yourself a pretty important evolution in keyword usage and a great leveraging tool for the popular publishing platform, Drupal.
