The Drupal online publishing platform is a free, open-source management system that will keep your site accessible, easy-to-use, and very Google-friendly. One of the many reasons it is so popular is the supported, active community and culture that has grown around the SEO-friendly CMS. But successful and optimal use of Drupal doesn’t happen overnight, and that is why we are so open to sharing our advice. Here are three Drupal-friendly SEO tips that will keep your website looking and navigating like a well-oiled machine.
1. Link Management
A website’s importance can be judged by its perceived popularity throughout the web. Search engines normally judge a site’s popularity by the amount and quality of the inbound and outbound links that are on a site. For that reason alone, you should ensure that your links are made with quality, relevant partners. Links are more about quality, not quantity. If you link with the wrong site, your ranking will drop and damage your overall perceived popularity and reputation by Google.
You should search for relevant link pages and speak to the owners of said links to determine whether they are a good fit for you. The more links you have with popular, well-reputed sites, the better your rankings will be. If you want a “deep link” strategy, try linking deeper within your partner’s sites, and vice versa.
2. Meaningful Names
When it comes to organizing, it helps to have everything labeled and named accurately and efficiently. Building and organizing a website is no different. In fact, the more meaningful, accurate, and keyword optimized everything on your website is, the more the search engines will like it. Search engines, just like humans, look at names of pages, path names, title tags, anchor text, H1 tags, alt tags, images, etc. to determine what the content is about and how it is contextually relevant.
A large emphasis is placed on meaningful text that allows the engines and the humans to make the connection between content and context. Use keywords and phrases into any link text, path names, title tags, anchor text, etc. to ensure that your entire Drupal site is SEO-friendly.
3. Web-enhanced Content
This tip goes for any website trying to optimize for the search engines, not just for Drupal-based sites. Use your SEO-established keywords and phrases throughout your on-page content, introduction page, About Us, FAQ, and any blog. The trick, and often the downfall, is to keep the content compelling, concise and creative. Don’t keyword stuff, or it will read salesy, forced, and spammy. These tips can be applied to any Drupal-based website to help optimize for the engines and reach their online success.
