If you want to build links fast, consider giving something away. It doesn't have to be huge, it just has to be interesting to your audience. Make sure the world hears about it by using press releases and community news websites like digg or del.icio.us.
Cold Stone Creamery just released a coupon for buy one, get one free ice cream at their stores nationwide. It's not a huge offer, but it sure sounds good when you consider how tasty their ice cream is. It was certainly good enough to get the attention of the community news site Digg.com. It is now one of the top stories on the wildly popular tech site with over 600 people bookmarking the coupon within 24 hours.
Typically, a story that gets into the top 10 in digg will get 10-20k clicks and 100-300 links.
Competitors were outranking me because I was nowhere to be seen. My website was probably 20 or 30 pages back until I engaged with Volacci… Now I’m getting phone calls from people saying ‘I found you on the Internet’.
