Google to Treat Subdomains as Subdirectories
Google's Matt Cutts announced at Pubcon this week that Google will soon be treating subdomains (www.volacci.com vs podcast.volacci.com) as being part of the same website for the search results. Previously, they treated subdomains just like separate websites. If there were 2 or 3 subdomains that showed up for a search results then they would all show up in the Google results. Not anymore! (well...soon)
What remains to be seen is if links from subdomains will lose their efficacy. In other words, if I have links from multiple subdomains, will I lose the link value? Google usually only gives credit for one link per domain. I guess it remains to be seen.
The good news for (Volacci customers anyway) is that we've never tried to use subdomains to game the search results or link building. So, once again, this change will only help our clients move higher.
Gee, do you see a trend? ;-)
Competitors were outranking me because I was nowhere to be seen. My website was probably 20 or 30 pages back until I engaged with Volacci… Now I’m getting phone calls from people saying ‘I found you on the Internet’.
